Julius Malema, a prominent South African opposition leader and head of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), was recently found guilty in a high-profile firearm case dating back to 2018. Malema himself described the prosecution as a deliberate ploy and maintained that his actions did not intend harm but were part of a tradition of rally energising. Nonetheless, the court’s verdict signals that such conduct will not be tolerated legally, regardless of political stature.
