Tshwane Welcomes New Flagship Cultural Festival At Wonderboom National Airport As Wonder Fest Takes Flight

A new cultural chapter is set to unfold in the capital as Wonder Fest, a first-of-its-kind lifestyle and music festival, makes its debut on Saturday, 7 March 2026 at the iconic Wonderboom National Airport.

Positioned as more than just a music event, Wonder Fest introduces a bold new festival experience under the theme “The Flight Experience – Not Flying, But Elevating Culture.” The festival reimagines the airport runway as a cultural runway, bringing together music, fashion, food, and people into a full day-to-night celebration of Tshwane’s creative energy.

The inaugural Wonder Fest lineup features some of South Africa’s most influential and respected artists, including DJ Maphorisa, Sun-EL Musician, MÖRDA, Vigro Deep, Ms Cosmo, Transmicsoul & Silly Bean, Kyotic DJ, Shandesh and more. The day will be hosted by celebrated MCs Mpumi Landan and Mfana Gogo, guiding festival-goers through a carefully curated musical journey designed to build energy from day into night.

Wonder Fest also draws its inspiration from the well-loved Wonder Market, expanding its ethos into a large-scale festival format that intentionally blends curated food experiences, fashion expression, lifestyle culture, and music into one immersive environment. The result is a festival that invites audiences not just to attend, but to participate, express themselves, and show up with
intention.

The choice of Wonderboom National Airport as the host venue is highly significant as it aligns the event with a landmark aviation precinct celebrating 90 years of operational excellence. The airport’s historic stature, strategic location, and expansive infrastructure provide an iconic backdrop that elevates the festival’s profile while enabling large-scale public participation. The event transforms an active transport hub into a vibrant civic space, showcasing City of Tshwane’s innovation, heritage, and cultural vitality. It further stimulates local economic activity, supports small businesses, promotes tourism, and strengthens public private collaboration reinforcing the airport’s role not only as a transport asset but as a catalyst for community engagement and urban activation.

Speaking on the significance of the festival, Wonder Fest representative
Victor Mopelong shared – “Wonder Fest is about creating a cultural moment that truly belongs to Tshwane. Hosting it at Wonderboom National Airport allows us to think bigger, move differently, and reimagine how people experience music, fashion, food, and each other. This is not about flying – it’s about elevating our own culture, right here in the capital city. We’re excited to welcome everyone on the 7th of March for what we believe will become a defining annual moment for Tshwane.”

As the first annual Wonder Fest, the festival sets the foundation for what aims to become a recurring cultural institution in Tshwane – one that celebrates local identity while resonating on a national scale.
